Of Thoughts Recycled
Made for UN Water’s World Water Day 2017 #wastewater, Of Thoughts Recycled considers our aversion to drinking recycled water in cities. Yet the idea that if all the water that ever was or will be has at some time been a part of all the humans that have ever lived, would it have retained an essence of our thoughts or beliefs? Maybe now we should treat water with the same respect as our ancestors. Printed paper with all the names of the water spirits, gods and goddesses of major religions throughout history, is collaged in whisps throughout.
Acrylic, paper, netting 70 cm x 70 cm
Uncontained
Like a cathedral to consumerism the crane rises up in the sky above a sea made of till receipts. Some of the remaining ducks of the 28,000 that fell of a container ship in 1992 float serenely by, a reminder that a passing whim can last a long, long time. Acrylic and collage on canvas- 70 cm x 50 cm
Turbulent Day
Turbulent Night
Made with ground glass, gold leaf and acrylic, these wind turbines aim to reflect their beauty in a landscape, usurping the chimney stack with clear, clean lines. 70cm x 50cm acrylic on canvas.
Where to Next?
Made for #Global_Reactive interpreting Taro Aizu’s poem about Fukishima. The ground is made from collaged fallout and cesium level reports and the lines from the poem have been written as “offerings” on the tree, in prayer for a better future for all that live there. 40 cm x 70 cm

ORGANIC PORTRAITURE
“I paint images from the landscape of my life, filtered through my own emotion and experience and concentrating on the detail and textural quality of what I see around me. Rather than attempting realism, I like to represent the feeling of an image I hold in my mind. Life moves so quickly in a constant swirl of experiences, emotions, expectations and painting, for me, is a moment of stillness. It is chance to reflect on the fleeting, to distill a feeling and make something tangible that others can share.”

PLACE & POSITION
“Throughout history our landscapes have been dominated by culturally significant structures which inspired awe, respect or fear. Whether pyramid or cathedral these structures have shaped our society as meeting places, mausoleums or temples. What dominates our landscape today? Cranes towering over buildings, cranes lifting the shipping crates battered from long sea journeys, wind turbines on lonely hills, a procession of electricity pylons strung together across town and field alike. My work aims to re-examine the modern symbol in the guise of the modern “cathedral”.

Vístete de Azul
Inspired by Miró’s Constellation series where the artist considers the order of nature and humans within it , Vistete de Azul is an emotional response to current confusion and breaking down of order in Europe at the moment. A sense of insecurity in these tumultuous times, echoes the intentions of The Escape Ladder, as far right movements re-surge and people struggle to recapture the optimism of the European Union’s beginnings and aims to foster collaboration instead of conflict. Recreated with paper collage, disjointed pieces of the picture float up like wishes and messages. The optimism of the colours and sparkle of dreams show a hope for resolution, caught up by the Autumn winds. Acrylic, oil paper on wood, 110 cm x 110 cm

Because it Was There
Often we wonder what makes us carry on when life wears us down. I asked friends on social media to give me a phrase that keeps them going. The results in Portuguese, Italian, Farsi, Spanish, French and English, humourous and poignant, along with their names, become part of the journey, every step upwards towards the blue sky – 87 cm x 87 cm
Without a Compass
Belief systems and religions ancient and new talk about The Way, but is there really only one way? So often there is no clear path and no right way, just a need to set off optimistically and learn what we can on the journey. Acrylic, oil, collaged maps & copper leaf on wood – 70 cm x 40 cm Sold
